Mission Statement Davis' physical education department increases student’s self-confidence to participate in physical activity within their community and encourages students to set wellness goals in order to live a healthy lifestyle.
Goal The goal of the Physical Education program at Davis Elementary is to provide students with a basic foundation of motor and manipulative skills, the importance of physical fitness and eating healthy, the understanding of how the body works, and the opportunity to develop effective personal and social skills. Students will be provided with the skills necessary to make decisions about physical activity for their own health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and social interaction. Our goal is to promote a positive learning environment that meets the needs and abilities of all students and encourages them to maintain a healthy and physically active lifestyle.
Proper Attire Students must wear sneakers/tennis shoes properly laced or secured with Velcro every day for PE, recess and Working Out for Wellness (WOW) time. Spiked cleats, hiking or thick bottom boots, shoes with heels, non-supporting slip-ons with or without backs are not safe for physical activity. Safe participation requires students to be dressed appropriately. It is important that your child wears comfortable clothing he/she can move around in. Shorts should be worn under dresses/skirts for participating in physical activity during PE, recess and WOW time. Jewelry that might get lost, broken, or cause injury should not be worn.
Fitness Testing 2020: Canceled for Spring due to COVID-19 Austin ISD utilizes the FitnessGram Test in order to assess student fitness levels, as well as encourage and bring awareness to the components of fitness. Our students are tested in the fall in order to set fitness goals to attain during our second set of testing in the spring. We begin introducing our students to the testing in kindergarten and begin the actual testing in grades three through five.
